Dr. Dennis A. Abegglen passed away August 3rd peacefully, yet suddenly, with members of family and friends at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, Willows Campground. Denny, born to Arthur and Beulah Abegglen on May 16th, 1949, grew up in Milwaukee. He attended Wisconsin Lutheran School, graduating in 1967. His pre-med education was at UW-Milwaukee before enrolling in Palmer Chiropractic School in Davenport, IA. As a child, Denny had debilitating, reoccurring headaches. His Aunt Martha suggested chiropractic adjustments and he had immediate relief. His reasons for going into chiropractic stemmed from his headaches along with his passion for helping others. He graduated with honors in April, 1972, as a Doctor of Chiropractic. He was on the faculty at Palmer for 13 years mainly instructing students in radiology and supervising the clinic doctors. In 1983, Denny started a private practice in New Windsor, IL. He moved to Shawano opening an office there while commuting to Merrill at his current office at 925 E. Main St. Denny loved the Shawano area where he spent summers with his grandparents, and later on lived on Shawano Lake. He worked his way through college playing and singing in a band called, Nashville Taxi, with his favorite song to sing, “The House of the Rising Sun”. He loved shooting trap with his brother, Gerald Abegglen, DC. He had two Weimaraner bird dogs, Minnie and Missy, who were in Denny’s words, “World class hunting dogs.” He deer hunted, but in his lifetime only bagged a few. He truly loved music, horses, wood working, camping, boating, and fishing.
~Denny is survived by his wife, Gail and his children: daughter Christine (Christie) Francek with her husband Tom (Ashland), his son Richard with wife Courtney Abegglen (Fredonia), daughter-in-law Jamie Abegglen (Wisconsin Rapids), Cody Rogers and girlfriend Amanda Boyd (Merrill), Clint Rogers with wife Trina (Merrill), Cassidy Rogers with fiancé Brianna Czech (Merrill), Cali Gehrung with husband Jesse (Abrams), Bryan Schroder with wife Kerri (Merrill), Steven Schroder with wife Vickie (Eads, TN). Grandchildren: Josh Stevenson with fiancée Stephanie Schermer (DePere). Ashlynn Stevenson with Caleb Hendrickson (Salt Lake City, UT). Liberty, Carter, and Honor Abegglen. Zachary Sullivan, Emily Varshou, Alexis and Eliza Rogers, Trent Anderson, Tyler Boyd, Jocelynn Broullire, Calvyn and Shayne Rogers, Alanna Rogers, Quinn, Leroy, and Jade Gehrung. Ryan Schroder and his wife Julie (McFarland), Brandon Schroder with his wife Angie (Marathon), Karlyn and Bailey Schroder. Great-grandchildren: Bailey, Cole, Claire, Nathan, and Natalie. He was preceded in death by brother Dr. Gerald Abegglen, son Robert Abegglen, daughter-in-law Stephanie Abegglen, grandson Brennen Rogers, parents Arthur and Beulah Abegglen.
A celebration of Denny’s life will be held Aug. 17th at N2021 Farmingdale Rd., Merrill. The public is invited to join the family from 10:30-11:30am and the memorial service from 11:30-noon.
