Merrill would lead 3-1 in the third inning, however an explosion of offense for Plover was all they needed to take the 12-3 win on Tuesday night.
Post 46 took an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. Casey Hoffman and Piersen Pyan each singled to start the inning. A wild pitch then allowed both runners to advance, putting runners on second and third base. Spencer Schneider came through with a single to right field, driving in both runners. Plover scored a run in the top of the third inning and Merrill responded with a run of their own. Holden Smith was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Hoffman then singled to the outfield, advancing Smith to third base. Later, a Jayden Sus single to right field scored Smith from third base.
Plover began to take over the game in the fourth inning, scoring three runs. The Black Sox then added four runs to their total in the top of the fifth inning. Two Plover runs in the sixth, followed by two more in the seventh, put the game out of reach, as the Black Sox came back to earn the 12-3 win.
Leading hitters for Merrill include: Spencer Schneider (1-3, 2RBI), Jayden Sus (1-3, RBI), Casey Hoffman (2-4) and Piersen Pyan (1-4, R).
Merrill will be hosting their annual Art Perkins Memorial tournament, starting on Friday, July 5, at 5 p.m. with the final game on Sunday, July 7, at 3:30 p.m.
