3rd Annual Empty Bowls dinner set for Aug. 27

Do you know what food insecurity is? Unfortunately, there are kids in Merrill that experience this every day.
The Merrill Optimists will once again host the 3 rd annual Empty Bowls dinner on Tuesday, August 27, from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Les and Jim’s Lincoln Lanes in Merrill.

This popular event is open to the public. For $10 attendees receive a homemade spaghetti dinner along with a unique bowl or mug painted by local residence. Advanced tickets are now available at Studio 808 and the Chamber of Commerce.
Empty Bowls is one of many service projects held annually to support the Food for Kids program through St. Stephen’s Church. In the last two years, Empty Bowls has raised over $11,000 for this project.
“Last year’s dinner was a huge success. We are grateful for the support shown by the Merrill community, not only at the dinner but to those that painted bowls,’ said Jeni Hinz, Empty Bowls chairperson. “The mission of the Optimists is to bring out the best in youth, our community and ourselves. By helping support Food for Kids, we are helping to alleviate food insecurity for the children in our community, thereby allowing them to be their best.”
If you would like to paint a bowl or mug for the event, visit Studio 808 before August 13. Mugs of different sizes were added this year to add variety. The friendly staff will be glad to assist you.  Your donation of $9 – $10 will cover the cost of materials (the cost of dinner is separate).
Winchester will again provide live music during dinner.

If you would like to make a donation to the event or volunteer, please contact Jeni at 715-370-0395 or email [email protected].  All proceeds go to the Food For Kids program.
