The Merrill trap shooting team traveled to Stevens Point on Saturday, June 8, for the Great Northern Conference shoot. The Jays emerged conference champs, totaling 448 points, just two points ahead of second place Mosinee.
Brandon Stolz led the way for Merrill, shooting a score of 95. Nicholas Holz wasn’t far behind, scoring a 92 for the Jays. Other Merrill shooters include: Jordan Smukowski scoring 90, Brayton Brown with an 86 and Eric Stolz shooting an 85.
Not only was Brandon Stolz the leading shooter on the team, he also posted the second highest score in the conference, one shot behind Tomahawk’s John Lacina.
Trap shooting is not a WIAA sport, however last season the teams in north-central Wisconsin formed the GNC. Last season, Merrill tied for first in the conference, however continued to grow and earned the GNC title this season.
