Local celebrities Compete in Campaign to Conduct

The 2019 Merrill City Band season will be underway before you know it! The group continues its efforts to raise money for improvements at Normal Park. One fundraiser this year is a return to the “Campaign to Conduct” competition. Three local celebrities will vie for the opportunity to guest conduct the band.
The three contestants are Shannon Murray – MHS Principal, Josh Klug – Fire Chief, and Rich Poirier – Church Mutual Insurance President and CEO.
“Voting Booths” are coming to Dave’s County Market, Lee’s Piggly Wiggly, both First Street Coffee Shops, and a few other locations around town to be announced soon. The candidate that gathers the most “votes” (i.e., cold, hard cash) will step to the podium for a familiar tune at a Wednesday night summer concert. Once displays go up, please vote early and often! No photo I.D. required and no one will be arrested for stuffing the ballot boxes.
In addition to voting at the various displays, tax-deductible monetary votes can be sent to the Merrill Chamber of Commerce at 705 North Center Avenue. Checks should be made out to “Friends of the City Band C to C – Chamber of Commerce Foundation.” Indicate your conductor choice in the memo line. See you at the ballot box!
