UPDATE: 70-year-old man dies after crash on US 51

PINE RIVER – A 70-year-old Marinette County man is dead after a crash yesterday on US 51 south, according to an update from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on Friday morning.

At 7:34 a.m. Thursday, Harold Broderick, 70, was driving his SUV when he turned into a truck driven by a 36-year-old Merrill man, in the other southbound lane. The crash occurred just south of State Highway 64. Broderick was injured in the crash and trapped in his vehicle, according to the press release. He was airlifted immediately to Aspirus-Wausau Hospital. The 36-year-old man did have a 7-year-old passenger in the truck. Both were unharmed.

US 51-South was closed or restricted to one lane of travel for roughly 90 minutes, according to the press release.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, but alcohol and speed are not factors in the crash the press release stated.

Responding agencies to the crash included: Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Merrill Fire Department and EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol, Merrill Police Department, Pine River Fire Department and Lincoln County Highway Department.
