Lady Jays season comes to an end

On Friday night the Merrill girls basketball team hosted Lakeland in the division two regional. The Jays would keep the game close throughout the first half, however Lakeland would pull away in the second half and take the 50-38 win.

The first half of play was tightly contested with neither team able to gain an advantage on the other. Lakeland would take a slight advantage into the halftime break, leading the Jays by four points.

In the second half of action Merrill struggled to hold on to the ball, committing more than 10 turnovers, allowing Lakeland to extend their lead. Lakeland outscored the Jays by eight more points in the second half on their way to the 12 point victory.

Dalie Thomas was the Jays leading scorer with eight points to go along with two rebounds, an assist and a steal. Courtney Krueger finished the game with seven points, two rebounds, four assists and four steals. Ashley Prebeg ended her night with eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

The Jays finish their season with a record of 9-12, going 3-9 in conference play.
