Merrill wrestlers fall to Everest

On Thursday night the Merrill wrestlling team traveled to D.C. Everest for a Wisconsin Valley Conference showdown. The Jays would get off to a good start, however Everest would go on a six match win streak as the Evergreens beat Merrill 43-27.

Merrill would lose the first match at 106 pounds, however would then win three straight. Tristan Brewington pinned his opponent in 1:48 at the 113 pound class. Tanner Depies then won at 120 pounds with a score of 5-2. Jacob Woller then won at 126 pounds by pinning his opponent in three minutes.

The Jays would not get another win until Bradley Leiskau wrestled at 182 pounds and took down his match up by pin in 1:33. Merrill’s final win came by Zach Iribarren who pinned his opponent at heavyweight in 3:35.

The Jays will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Athens High School for a dual meet at 7 p.m.
