Merrill cross country hosts annual meet

On Saturday morning the Merrill cross country team ran in Merrill’s annual home meet at the MARC. The Bluejay girls would take third place out of five teams and the boys finished fifth out of six teams.

In the girls race Merrill’s Dalie Thomas had a solid showing, taking seventh place with a run of 20:24. Liz Smith was not far behind, as she ran a time of 20:44, good enough for ninth place. Hunter Zecca had a solid day with a 23rd place finish on a run of 23:11. Rounding out the top 25 was Merrill’s Anika Bartz, who ran a time of 23:41.

On the boys side Dominic Laufenberg led the way for Merrill with a run of 17:33 for a seventh place finish. Ethan Schelbert would be the second Merrill boy across the finish line, running a time of 18:33 for a 20th place finish. Ethan Cordova was following closely as he finished in 23rd place with a run of 18:48.

Merrill will compete in the conference meet this Saturday at Nine Mile Forest in Wausau, starting at 11 a.m.
