On Wednesday night the Merrill soccer team hosted the Wausau West Warriors in a conference match up. Merrill had a tough time getting any offensive pressure as they would go scoreless in a 3-0 loss.

West would take the lead in the first half, scoring two goals in the first 30 minutes. “West proved to get a very quick team who played with aggressiveness and controlled the ball extremely well.” Comments Merrill head coach Erich Wallace, “We ended up taking a forward off and putting in a defensive midfielder to slow down their attack.”

In the second half of West would extend their lead, scoring their final goal to go up 3-0. Merrill would find some chances to score in the second half, however would come up empty as coach Wallace explains, “It wasn’t until the second half that we really even got the ball into scoring position. Hunter Wallace put a nice shot from outside on net that the keeper bobbled and one of our forwards was almost there to clean it up, but the keeper snatched it in time. Later on Isaac Sutton made a nice run into the box and gave us a good look at a goal, but had the ball deflected away by a defender.”

Merrill will play against Pacelli this Saturday at Jay Stadium, starting at 1 p.m.
