November ballots take shape following Tuesday’s Primary

Along with shaping the Nov. 6 General Election ballot on a state level, Tuesday’s Partisan Primary Election also gave a glimpse into what could possibly be the four-year forecast locally. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Ken Schneider appears to be the victor of the Lincoln County Sheriff race Tuesday; surpassing opponent Pete Borchardt 2,599-2,181. The Lincoln County Coroner race appears to be much more decisive as incumbent Paul Proulx has garnered 3,015 votes, and is the projected winner over challenger Mark Raymer’s 1.540 votes.
Schneider and opponent Borchardt were both challengers in the race, as current Lincoln County Sheriff Jeff Jaeger has announced plans for retirement. Schneider entered the race with 27 years of experience as an employee of the Sheriff’s Office, and current patrol Lieutenant. Borchardt entered the race as a 20-year employee of the Merrill Police Department, as a patrol officer.
Proulx entered the race as the incumbent with 11 years of experience as Lincoln County Coroner. Raymer entered the race with no experience in the position, but campaigned on a tenure of military service which he felt was of value to the position of Lincoln County Coroner.
In the big picture, 32% of 21,343 registered voters county-wide turned out Tuesday; resulting in 4,977 ballots being cast Republican and 1,883 cast on the Democratic side. In addition, 31 Non-Partisan ballots were cast, 30 crossover ballots, four Libertarian, three for the Wisconsin Green Party and a single vote for the Constitution party.
The Republican party found definitive success Tuesday as 73% of voters (5,106) voted on the GOP ticket, while 26% (1,822) leaned Democratic and seven votes (1%) on the Libertarian side.
Incumbent governor Scott Walker triumphed in the Republican primary Tuesday, topping opponent Robert Meyer: 3,733-1,103. On the Democratic side, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Superintendent Tony Evers triumphed over an array of party candidates vying for a slot on the November ballot. Evers picked up 1,037 votes while his closest competitor, former Assemblywoman Kelda Roys of Madison, tallied 161.
Below are other results from Tuesday’s Partisan Primary.
The Lincoln County Board of Canvass will convene 9 a.m. Monday morning at the Lincoln County Service Center for official canvassing of ballots from the county’s sheriff and coroner races.
