Bluejay track places well at Medford

On Tuesday, April 24, the Merrill track team traveled to Medford for a seven team meet. The Merrill boys took second place with a team score of 204, losing by nine points to Medford. The Lady Jays would finish in third place with 116.5 team points.
In the 100 meter dash, Adam Laehn placed third place for Merrill, running a time of 11.66 seconds, only .03 seconds away from the second place runner. On the girls side of the 100 meter dash, Autumn Schenzel placed in sixth with a time of 13.50 seconds. The boys had a nice showing in the 200 meter dash as Adam Laehn was able to get a second place finish with a time of 24.32 seconds. James Pawlicki ran a time of 24.98 which got him a fourth place finish and right behind him in fifth place was Nik Zastrow who finished with a time of 24.99. For the girls, Autumn Schenzel took second place with a time of 27.73 seconds, with teammate Faith Seliger finishing in fifth place, running a time of 29.32. In the boys 400 meter run, Taron Gutowski took second place, running a time of 55.67 seconds. Cutler Nowak ran a time of 59.71 seconds and that was good enough for a fifth place finish.
In the distance running, Dominic Laufenberg had a nice showing with a third place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.61. On the girls side, Dalie Thomas finished in third place with a time of 2:42.38, with teammate Sadie Wakefield taking fifth place with a time of 2:48.44. In the boys 1600 meter run, Laufenberg kept steady at third place, running a time of 4:51.50. In the 3200 meter run, Merrill’s Atte Laak took fifth place with a time of 13:15.38, with teammate Kurtis Schulz taking sixth with a time of 13:17.34.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Isaac Meyer took first place, running a time of 17.69 seconds. Aiden Tautges came in third place with a time of 18.30. For the girls, Emily Sczygelski ran a time of 21.23 which was good enough for fourth place. Sczygelski would finish in first place for the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 54.91, which was five seconds faster than the second place finisher.
The Merrill boys 4×200 relay team took first place, running a time of 1:36.93. The team consists of Nik Zastrow, Jared Olhoff, James Pawlicki and Adam Laehn. The girls 4×200 relay team also took first place with a time of 1:56,03. The girls team is made up of Autumn Schenzel, Brielle Thorson, Fiana Allen and Maddy Leischer.
In the discus, Merrill’s Robert Oestreich took first place with a distance of 117-06. The boys high jump was won by Jared Olhoff, as he jumped 5-10.00. The girls high jump was won by Faith Seliger who jumped a height of 4-10.00. In the long jump Adam Laehn took first place with a distance of 20-08.50, with teammate Jared Olhoff taking second place with a distance of 19-02.50. Olhoff would then go on to take first place in the triple jump with a distance of 42-02.00.
The Merrill track team will be back in action Friday as they host the 33rd annual Otto Bacher track meet, starting at 5 p.m. at Jay Stadium.
