Girls track takes fourth at Northland Pines invite

On Saturday (April 7) the Merrill girls track team traveled to Northland Pines to compete at an indoor Invite. The Merrill girls had a solid performance finishing in fourth place as a team.

Autumn Schenzel had a nice showing in the 55 meter and 200 meter dash. In the 55 meter Schenzel took third place with a time of 7.96 seconds, missing first place by only .09 of a second. In the 200 meter she came in fourth place running a time of 29.71 seconds, which was 1.3 seconds behind the first place finisher.

The 400 meter dash saw another Merrill runner find success with Dalie Thomas finishing in a time of 1:05.01, good enough for first place. In the 4×200 meter relay, Merrill took first place with a time of 2:01.26. The team consists of Autumn Schenzel, Faith Seliger, Brielle Thorson and Journey Smith.

In the pole vault, Merrill’s Emily Sczygelski had a solid showing, taking fourth place with a height of 8-06.00. In the high jump Faith Seliger took sixth place, jumping a height of 4-04.00. In the long jump Journey Smith took fourth place, with a distance of 14-09.00. Teammate Autumn Schenzel also had a nice showing in the long jump taking sixth place with a distance of 14-07.00. In the shot put Merrill’s Erin Murray had a distance of 25-09.00, which was good enough for a sixth place finish.

The girls track team is set to compete again on Tuesday, April 17, as they will travel to Wausau West along with the boys track team with the meet starting at 4:15 p.m.
