Bluejays find success at St. Croix

On Friday the Merrill wrestling team traveled to St. Croix for a dual meet against St. Croix Central. Merrill dominated winning 66-9 and only losing two matches throughout the meet.

Merrill would start off on the right foot getting a forfeit win in the 106 weight class before Tanner Depies pinned his opponent in the 120 weight class.St. Croix would then get one of their wins at the 126 weight class as Alex Gehrke lost by pin. The Bluejays would bounce back with a pin of their own in the 132 weight class, as Jacob Woller pinned his opponent in only a minute and a half. With Merrill leading 18-6, Brody Gehrke was able to add on six more for the Jays with a win by pin at the 138 weight class.

After a forfeit at 145 the Bluejays held a commanding 30-6 lead as St. Croix got their second and final win of the meet by 8-4 decision at the 152 weight class. Wyatt Koehler would bring another win for the Jays as he pinned his counter part at the 160 weight class. Following the 160 weight class Merrill won the next four matches by forfeit bringing the meet to the final weight class at 285. Noah Bolling was able to take care of business with a pin in 14 seconds to round out Merrill’s 66-9 victory.

The Bluejays will hit the mat again on Thursday as they travel to Wisconsin Rapids for a conference meet with the Red Raiders.
