Live Sustainable presents ‘How to Heat Your Home with Wood’

As winter grips the region and people search for alternative ways to heat their homes, many people turn to wood stoves, wood burning furnaces and even fireplaces for home heating. But not everyone knows what to look for in an installer, how to evaluate the condition of a chimney, how to dispose of ashes safely or a handful of other issues that arise with the use of these devices.
On Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m., Merrill Fire Chief Dave Savone will give a presentation on safely using wood burning heating devices in houses in Room 156 in the lower level of the Lincoln County Service Center at 801 N. Sales St., Merrill.
Chief Savone will give a slide show and answer questions about wood stove installers and installation, safe use of wood burning devices and maintenance of stoves, fireplaces, furnaces and chimneys.
Faulty equipment, improper installation or neglected maintenance can all pose life threatening risks to those who use such devices. Careful attention to installation and maintenance can reduce those risks.
This talk is for anyone who currently has, is thinking of, or is in the process of adding a wood burning device in the home. You do not need to be a member of Live Sustainable to attend (although new members are always welcome).
