For the 75th consecutive year, millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country will be celebrating National 4-H Week during the first full week of October.
Lincoln County 4-H utilizes National 4-H Week and the month of October to showcase the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people, and will highlight the remarkable 4-H youth in our community who work each day to make a positive impact on those around them. This includes 4-H clubs putting up displays throughout the county, National 4-H Week Poster Contest entries displayed in the Lincoln County Service Center, fall 4-H Project Discovery Day on Oct. 14 and the annual 4-H Recognition Banquet on Oct. 21.
“Over 400 youth participate in 4-H community or after school clubs in Lincoln County where they develop leadership, communication, responsibility and confidence,” says Debbie Moellendorf, 4-H Youth Development Educator with University of Wisconsin-Extension. “These youth are provided hands-on guidance and mentoring by over 160 adults who serve as 4-H volunteer leaders in Lincoln County.”
4-H alumni around the country are always the first to acknowledge the significant positive impact 4-H had on them as young people; the opportunities and experiences that 4-H provides youth empowers them to become true leaders. In fact, research has shown that young people in 4-H are almost four times as likely to contribute to their communities, and are twice as likely to engage in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs in their free time.
Now is a great time to enroll in Lincoln County 4-H as a youth member or adult leader. There are 12 active community 4-H clubs and six after school clubs in Lincoln County. You can pick up a 2017-18 Lincoln County 4-H Enrollment and Project Guide at the T. B. Scott Library, Tomahawk Library, and the UW-Extension office located in the Lincoln County Service Center.
