Winterfest weekend in Merrill

As part of Merrill’s Winterfest Weekend, the Merrill Optimist Club will be holding their annual cardboard sled race on Jan. 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Lion’s Park, 210 W. 3rd St.

Registration will be available at 11 a.m. (bring your form), the judging of sleds will take place at 11:30 a.m. and the races begin at 12 p.m. or as soon as design judging has completed.

The goal is to fashion a cardboard sled capable descending down the Lion’s Hill slope. Prizes awarded as soon as races are completed at the bottom of the hill. Hot chocolate will be sold by the Octagon Club in the warming house.

Winterfest activities will also include a co-ed volleyball tournament at Kate Goodrich School starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. There will be a cash payout for first, second and possibly third, depending on the number of teams. Call Dawn at 715-536-7313 to get your team signed up.

Also on Saturday, T.B. Scott Library will be hosting a cookbook exchange from 10 a.m.-noon. Bring a gently used cookbook and exchange for a different one.
