Emma Melauskas, 96, died on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill, WI.

A memorial service for Emma was held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Waid Funeral Home in Merrill.  Deacon Jim officiated.  She was later laid to rest alongside her mother and sister at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Buffalo Grove, IL.

Emma was born on October 27, 1919, to Joseph and Valeria Melauskas in Chicago, IL.  As a young woman, Emma worked in support of the US WWII effort manufacturing vital supplies for our troops. She was later one of the original Harvey Girls working for Fred Harveys in Chicago’s Union Station, during the golden age of railroad travel.  In 1971 she bought a home for herself and her mother in Elk Grove Village, IL, where she cared for her mother until her death at age 98.  In 2003, she moved to Merrill where she lived on State Street before moving to Pine Crest in 2010.

Her interests included devotion to her family, fishing, gardening, bowling, current events and the many people she has charmed with her sparkling smile, great sense of humor and caring heart.

Emma is survived by her sister, Lucille Gustafson of Tomahawk and loving nieces, Marie Landes of Merrill and Cheri Ellis Campbell of Richmond, IL and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Bernice Ellis and nephew, Eugene Gustafson. She will be missed and fondly remembered by all who have known her.
