Crash results in felony charge for Merrill teen

Daniel D. Ponzer, 17 of Merrill-was charged September 15 with Felony-Reckless Driving-Causing Great Bodily Harm.
According to court records, Ponzer was involved in a motor vehicle accident in rural Lincoln County on August 10, resulting in extensive injuries to another motorist.

Ponzer was reportedly traveling westbound on CTH FF when his vehicle failed to stop at an intersection and collided with a vehicle traveling northbound on Fairview Road. Ponzer reportedly advised investigating deputies his vehicle was traveling approximately 10 mph when the brakes “went out” and he was unable to stop for the stop sign at the intersection. Deputies reportedly discovered skid marks measuring 53 feet from Ponzer’s vehicle and 60 feet of skid marks from the other vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle reportedly sustained 5 fractured ribs, a wrist injury and a fractured sternum as as result of the crash.
