Two years after a near tragic incident in the Town of Pine River, 13-year old Arab/Quarter horse ‘Pepsi’ has come a long way, thanks to love, dedication and a whole lot of patience on behalf of her owner Susan Weiland of Merrill.

In September of 2014, the Merrill Foto News brought you the story of Pepsi and Weiland’s perilous experience in crossing a swift and swollen creek in Pine River Township. What began as an early-fall afternoon with a ride the pair had navigated numerous times before, suddenly took a literal downhill plunge as Pepsi found herself shoulder deep in water and quickly swept downstream. Despite Pepsi’s rather large size, Weiland watched helplessly as her beloved steed was swept away, her head disappearing beneath the current several times before Weiland losing sight of her.

Following several rides since that fateful day, along with a few hurdles along the way, the pair have since returned to that same crossing and made their way across together. Although a bit cautious, Pepsi has since conquered the adversary which came so very close to claiming her life.

Be sure and check out this week’s Merrill Foto News for a full recap of Pepsi’s recovery from that fateful fall day.
