Merrill varsity volleyball had a terrific day on Saturday, winning every single match and defeating every single opponent that stood opposite the net. Merrill placed first in the pool, defeating Athens (25-20, 25-21), Green Bay Southwest (25-14, 25-14), Stanley-Boyd (25-17, 25-10) and Medford (25-13, 25-17). After that they defeated Tomahawk (26-24, 25-17) and met DePere in the championship where they defeated them 25-23, 25-17.

Kelsie had 44 serving attempts with five aces and three errors. Taylor had 42 serve attempts with two errors and 31 serve attempts with five errors.

“Our big match of the day was against Medford,” comments head coach Kris Krug. “We were geared up for that match up knowing that we could possibly see them in the post season. Katie Zelinski had a dominating performance with 18 kills in that match and 49 overall in the tournament. This was one of her best matches this season! Taylor Cichy and Kelsie Belfiori played a sold back row and had some amazing saves for us today. Lindsey Casper contributed 76 assists for kills in the tournament. Our goal is to keep learning and improving with every match.

“I’m proud of the team today as they rallied around each other when someone was struggling. We have girls coming off the bench that can fill in where needed.”
