Mosinee turned a 31-25 halftime lead into a 65-49 triumph over the THS boys basketball team in Friday’s game on its home court.
The Hatchets dipped to 6-6 overall and 1-4 in the GNC.
“It was one of our best outings, especially because the kids put forth great effort on the defensive end of the floor,” THS coach Tim Albert noted. “We really had a great deal of enthusiasm.
“We did a good job controlling penetration, and we really challenged their shooters. They are a very good three point shooting team, but I thought we did a great job of forcing them to take pull-ups instead of uncontested threes.
“Offensively, we handled their full-court pressure well and also executed well. We just had trouble with stringing back-to-back bad trips down the floor with turnovers or quick shots, and Mosinee took advantage of those trips and got baskets on their end.”
Justin Jarvensivu hit consecutive threes to cut Mosinee’s lead to six point with 6:00 left in the game. It was still within seven later, but Mosinee drilled 14-of-15 free throws down the stretch to pull away.
Tomahawk scoring was primed by Jarvensivu (game-high 24), Andrew Cook (7), Easton Phalin (6), Jacob Zietlow (4), Brandon Vecchio, (3) and Isaac Weber (3).
Toma: 25 – 24 – 49.
Mos: 31 – 34 – 65.
