Man arrested while driving after crash

A 52-year-old Merrill man was arrested after deputies and Merrill Police Officers located a reckless driver Sunday afternoon. At 4:18 p.m. cell callers reported a vehicle traveling on North Center Avenue in the City of Merrill that had severely damaged tires. Callers continued to provide information as the vehicle traveled east on County Rd. G at a high rate of speed with only one front tire. Merrill Police Officers and a deputy stopped the vehicle on State Rd. 17 near Smith Road in the Town of Merrill. The 52-year-old driver showed signs of intoxication but refused to perform field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody for second degree reckless endangering safety as well as for resisting arrest. He was also cited for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated first offense. Merrill Police Officers will likely cite the man for hit and run after finding a damaged guard rail and light standard on County Rd. G. The man was held for an initial court appearance on Monday.
