Frederic Jack Shook, Jr.

Frederic Jack Shook, Jr., left this world on February 22, 2015, at the age of 83 to rejoice in the arms of his Savior.  He left behind his earthly home in Irma, Wisconsin, where he was being cared for by his loving family.
Jack was born on October 30, 1931, in Coushatta, Louisiana, to the late Frederic and Mary Thelma Shook.  He graduated from Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie, Texas, and from the Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri.  He also earned Doctorates in Theology and Philosophy.
Jack met fellow Marine Edith Jane Benson at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in California.  They married on July 10, 1954, when his love for her showed in his eyes and never dimmed even as they closed for the final time over 60 years later.
Jack served in the Marine Corps from1947-1958, during which time he fought in the Korean War.  He then enlisted in the Air Force from 1958-1969.  During this enlistment, he was an agent for the Office of Special Investigations (OSI).  During his military career, Jack was stationed at numerous bases and was the recipient of many honors, awards, and citations.
After 22 years of military service, Jack retired to civilian life on December 1, 1969.  After that time, he was a Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff, Insurance Claims Specialist, Special Investigator, and County Board Supervisor.  In 1973, Jack was called into the ministry of the Lord.  After he attended college, he began pastoring his first church in Merrill, Wisconsin, on August 6, 1975.  He continued his ministry as pastor until 2014, retiring at Grace Baptist Church in Irma, Wisconsin.
Jack was a gentle, caring, and giving man who had the ability to make others feel special.  His love of the Lord was evident in each aspect of his life as he led by example and he was a true teacher of the Word.
Jack looked forward to being reunited in heaven with his beloved daughter Vicky Schroeder (WI) who preceded him in death.  He also was preceded in death by his parents, Frederic and Mary Thelma Shook, and sister, Lillian Lawrence, all of Texas.
Jack is survived by his wife Edith Jane (Benson) Shook of Irma, Wisconsin; two sons, Frederic (Debra) Shook (TN) and James (Penny) Shook (WI); three daughters, Stephanie (John) Goertz (WI), Deborah Shook (WI), and Carrie (Shawn) Pierschalla (WI); one son-in-law, Leonard Schroeder (WI); two brothers, Larry (Dianne) Shook (TX) and Gary (Wendy) Shook (TX); one brother-in-law, Tommy Lawrence (TX); 13 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for the gracious family support and final parting gift of dignity and peace.
The funeral service for Jack Shook will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 26, 2015, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill.  Pastor Wynne Kimbrough of Grace Baptist Church – Kingsford, Michigan will preside.  Burial will take place in Chat Cemetery, Town of Birch, Lincoln County, with graveside military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 10:00 A.M. Thursday all at the funeral home.
