Merrill Fire Department offers open house

The Merrill Fire Department will be hosting an open house on May 18 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. for all the public to see their new fire station at 110 Pier St. and the vehicles it houses. Refreshments and snacks will be served. The open house will include tours of the station, vehicles new and old, along with health and safety education booths.
The station tours will be given by Merrill Fire Department members. The tours will include the whole station showing the various rooms, equipment and vehicles. Included will be the recently put in service Tender 65, a gift to the businesses and citizens of Merrill from the Bierman Family Foundation.
As this Open House does coincide with the start of national EMS week, the Fire Department has arranged to have booths on various topics. A distracted driving simulator will be available for people to try. The Merrill Police Department will be conducting car seat safety checks to see if your car seats are the proper type for your children and to check if the seats are installed correctly in your vehicle. Good Samaritan Hospital will have representatives from cardiology department with handouts on preventing heart disease. The Lincoln County Falls Coalition will present information on fall prevention with the elderly, blood pressure screenings, and displays of actual pacemakers and stents.
