Merrill school children collected $4,852 for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) during the 2013 campaign. Including donations from Merrill businesses, the total came to $5,020.
Students from Merrill public elementary schools, Trinity and St. John Lutheran schools and Prairie River Middle School participated in the Trick or Treat for UNICEF program. The program is coordinated in the elementary schools by Kate Goodrich teacher Christine Schmelling and at the middle school by Mark Seaman.
This year’s Merrill collection was sent to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, earmarked for the children of Syria. The UNICEF program in Merrill includes school visits by volunteers, who educate the children about the country where the money will go and how it will help other children.
