Nominations open soon for city offices

All city of Merrill elected offices will be up for re-election on April 15, 2014. The first day to circulate nomination papers to run for any city office is Dec. 1, 2013. Completed nomination papers must be filed with the Merrill city clerk’s office by Jan. 7.
Offices up for election include mayor, incumbent Bill Bialecki; city clerk, incumbent Bill Heideman; street commissioner, incumbent Dick Lupton; and the newly-created position of joint municipal court judge, which will preside over cases for the cities of Merrill and Tomahawk.
All aldermanic seats will also be up for election, including: District 1, incumbent Chris Malm; District 2, incumbent Steve Hass; District 3, incumbent Ryan Schwartzman; District 4, incumbent Kandy Peterson; District 5, incumbent John Burgener; District 6, incumbent David Sukow; District 7, incumbent Rob Norton; and District 8, incumbent Anne Caylor.
The terms for all other offices begin on May 1st, 2014. The terms for all alderpersons are two years, and the terms for all other offices are four years. 
If a primary is necessary, the primary will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014.
