Panthers bite THS

The THS football team fell to 0-3 on the season with a 32-7 loss to a tough Pittsville squad.
The Hatchets fell behind 26-0 by halftime and 32-0 in the third before scoring on a 43-yard screen pass from Kaleb Kaminski to Jake Borchardt with 6:18 left in the fourth.
“Friday night’s loss can be summed up with the word, ‘inconsistent,’ ” THS coach John Larson said. “Offensively at times we moved the ball well both on the ground and through the air. But a combination of missed assignments, timely penalties and mishandled and poor snaps hurt the Hatchets. For every step forward, there were two steps back.
“Defensively we got manhandled on the perimeter and gave up too many big plays. Our guys need to play their responsibility and if we do it 11 men at a time, we can be a very good defense. Right now we have guys trying to do too much, which puts holes in our defense.
“Special teams play was decent. We need to keep getting better with the little things.”
The Panthers built a huge 278-72 yards gained advantage in the first half, scoring on TD runs of 35, 1, 15 and 20 yards. Three of the drives covered at least 64 yards. Their final score was a 74-yard dash by Nathan DuPee, who reached the end zone three times.
Kaminski completed 9-of-19 passes for 112 yards, primarily to Borchardt (3-64), Aaron Leonhard (3-25) and Lorne Ahrens (2-21). The rushing attack of 74 yards was led by Kaminski (14-37), Borchardt (9-21) and Ahrens (2-6).
Pacing the THS defense were: Kaminski (5 S, 5 A); Borchardt (4 S, 4 A); Schoone (1 S, 3 A, 1 FR, 1 PBU); Schoone (2 s, 2 A, 1 FF); Jacob Schaper (3 S, 3 A); Leonhard (1 S, 5 A); Nate Flohr (1 S, 1 A, 1 FF); and Ahrens (1 S, 2 A, 1 PBU).
