The Merrill Park and Recreation Department along with Dynamo Creative Marketing will be bringing back some Winterfest activities to the Merrill area the weekend of Feb. 2-3.
After some careful planning it was decided to add some Winterfest activities in conjunction with the Custom Design Cool Running Sled Dog Races that are held at the former Pine River School, now called Pine River School for Young Learners. Sled dog races start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 and 9 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3.
On Saturday, Feb. 2 the Merrill Park and Recreation Department will be hosting a Co-ed Volleyball tournament at Kate Goodrich School. We are looking for at least 12 teams for the co-ed volleyball tournament. Cost for a team to get into the tournament is $60. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams. With the help of Mother Nature we will also be bringing back the snow sculptures at Normal Park. We are looking for 10 organizations to compete against each other in creating the “best” snow sculpture. There will also be a Winterfest Skate at the Smith Center from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2.
The Wisconsin Trailblazers Sled Dog Club is holding an ISDRA Sanctioned race. Competitors from Canada and the northern USA will compete in Skijoring, 10, 6, and 4 Dog Classes as well as Junior Class. Medals, trophies and prize money will be awarded. This event has received tourism funds to publicize the event in cooperation with the Merrill Chamber of Commerce.
To end a busy day on Saturday, Feb. 2 we are inviting everyone to Lincoln Lanes for a Winterfest Spaghetti “All You Can Eat” Supper beginning at 5 p.m. Adults are $7.50 and kids under 12 will be $5.
