Immigrant Stories Sought By Marathon County Historical Society

The Marathon County Historical Society is creating a new permanent exhibit that will tell the story of our home- Our Stories: The History of Marathon County. To tell the story we need your help! We are seeking first person accounts of immigrants to be used in conjunction with the new exhibit. This includes stories of arrival and day-to-day life of the new immigrants recorded in diaries, journals or letters. These are the people of all cultures who came to Central Wisconsin from other countries or other states, from centuries past or the recent past.

The history of Marathon County can only be told through the stories of its people; Native Americans and fur traders, lumberjacks and lumber barons, businessmen and laborers, housewives and heroines, youth and elderly.

Photos of the immigrants who wrote the account would also be greatly appreciated. Copies of all materials will be made and the originals returned to you.

If you are able to share your family’s story, and photos if possible, please contact us at [email protected] or 715-842-5750.
