Man arrested for cutting down bras

A 40-year-old Merrill man was arrested by police early Tuesday after he allegedly cut down bras that were hanging along the Center Avenue bridge as part of the Bras Across the Bridge display.
A Merrill Police officer observed that the bra display had been cut as he crossed the bridge about 1 a.m. Tuesday. The suspect was arrested a short distance away. A witness told police he had come over the bridge to find the suspect’s vehicle parked on the bridge. The witness observed the man running back and forth, cutting down bras and throwing them in his vehicle.
When the suspect, Christopher Tveten, was stopped by the officer, approximately 80 bras were found in and hanging out of his vehicle.
Tveten was arrested on a preliminary charge of disorderly conduct. When contacted by police on Tuesday, event coordinators advised they did not want to pursue theft or criminal damage to property charges against him.
Organizers tightened up the lines Tuesday evening to get the bras out of reach.
