Goldie E. Saeger, 100, Merrill, went to be with her Savior on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at Pine Crest Nursing Home. She was born July 14, 1910 in the Town of Berlin, daughter of the late Emil and Ida (Grueneberg) Johr. On February 7, 1930, she married Roman (Mike) Saeger. He preceded her in death April 8, 1956.
After her husband’s death, Goldie worked in retail at Kohloff’s, Jean’s Hats and Purses and many years at Wanless TV. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Altar Guild, a member of the Ladies’ Aid, the 5th Ward Circle, Trinity choir, a VBS teacher and a member of the Valpo Guild. Goldie was a volunteer at the library and delivered Meals on Wheels. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, playing cards, doing word puzzles, handwork and was an avid Brewer fan.
She is survived by three children: Marilyn Jean Allen, Minocqua, Florence (Rodney) Kalenske, N. Fort Myers, FL, and David (Judy) Saeger, Weston; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, one son-in-law; three sisters; one son-in-law and two infant great-grandsons,
Services will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 – 8 PM Wednesday June 8, 2011 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church Thursday. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Pine Crest Nursing Home and Asera Care Hospice and Pastors Gustafson and Stolarczyk for their visits and prayers. The family requests memorials be given to the Trinity Lutheran School Scholarship Fund in Goldie’s memory. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
