Margaret J. Murphy, 88, Merrill passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.
She was born August 20, 1922 in Waupun, the daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes (Mc Robert) Broadway. She married Frank Murphy Sr. on April 15, 1944 in Hollywood, FL, he preceded her in death November 16, 2010.
Margaret was a homemaker, and truly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very active, gardening, walking, swimming, and she also enjoyed crossword puzzles and Scrabble. Margaret served with the U.S. Navy.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Merrill, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her children: Valerie (Dan) Nicholson, Judi (Charles “Bubs”) Johnson, and Frank (Becky) Murphy Jr. all of Merrill; 9 grandchildren: Mark, Keith and Scott Nicholson, Heather (Guthrie) Swider, Ryan Guthrie, Jennifer (Lokemoen) Peterson, Megan (Murphy) Strobel, Shannon and Joseph Murphy. She is further survived by 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister: Agnes “Aggie” (Donn) Sharer, of Wausau, sister-in-law: Rose Broadway, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Margaret “Peggy” Murphy, and three brothers: Arthur, Ralph, and Robert “Bob” Broadway.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 11, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Don King will officiate. Visitation will be from 9-11 AM before the service at the church. Burial will follow at Merrill Memorial Park, graveside military honors will be presented by VFW Post # 1638. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Merrill Food Pantry. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
